Total Score = Sum of all 21 item scores
Each item score must be from 0 to 3, so the full score range is 0 to 63.
Additional Metrics
Average Item Score = Total Score ÷ 21
Percent of Maximum = (Total Score ÷ 63) × 100
Change = Current Total − Previous Total
Severity Band Logic
BDI-II bands: 0–13 minimal, 14–19 mild, 20–28 moderate, 29–63 severe.
Original bands: 0–9 minimal, 10–18 mild to moderate, 19–29 moderate to severe, 30–63 severe.

5. What does percent of maximum mean?
It converts the total score into a 0 to 100 scale using 63 as the maximum possible score. It helps compare results visually.
6. Can I compare this score with an earlier one?

7. When should results be reviewed urgently?
