Formula Used

The calculator uses a 15-item, five-point rating model. Each statement receives a score from 1 to 5. Negatively phrased items are reverse coded first.

Core equations

Adjusted item score = response score

Reverse item score = 6 − response score

Raw resilience score = sum of all adjusted item scores

Resilience percent = ((Raw Score − 15) ÷ 60) × 100

Domain method

Domain average = domain item sum ÷ 3

Domain percent = ((Domain Average − 1) ÷ 4) × 100

Balance index = highest domain percent − lowest domain percent

Score bands used here are: below 40 low, 40 to 59.9 developing, 60 to 74.9 moderate, 75 to 89.9 strong, and 90 or above exceptional.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does this resilience score measure?

It estimates coping strength across emotional regulation, problem solving, support, adaptability, and optimism. It reflects self-reported habits, not a formal diagnosis.

2. Is this a clinical mental health test?

No. It is a self-reflection and screening tool. Clinical diagnosis requires assessment by a qualified mental health professional using broader history and context.

3. Why are some questions reverse scored?

Reverse scoring corrects negatively worded items so higher adjusted totals consistently indicate stronger resilience. This keeps the final score easier to interpret.

4. Can I use this tool to track improvement?

Yes. Repeat the test over time using similar conditions. Compare your percent score, domain scores, and balance index to spot trends.

5. What is a good resilience score?

Scores above 75% suggest strong resilience habits in this model. Still, context matters. High performers can struggle if sleep, stress, or support worsens.

6. Why does the calculator ask about sleep and stress?

Those inputs add context to the report. They do not change the score directly, but they help explain whether recovery habits may be under strain.

7. Should low scores worry me?

Low scores can indicate stretched coping resources, not personal failure. Use them as a cue to improve routines, seek support, and consider professional guidance.

8. When should I seek professional help?

Seek help if distress feels persistent, intense, unsafe, or disrupts sleep, work, study, or relationships. Emergency concerns should go to local crisis services immediately.
