Formula Used

1. Base parenting days: Projected period days × (parent cycle days ÷ total assigned cycle days).

2. Adjusted parenting days: Base parenting days + holiday days + vacation days.

3. Parenting percentage: Parent adjusted days ÷ combined adjusted days × 100.

4. Days to rebalance: Absolute difference between parent days ÷ 2.

5. Estimated shared budget: (Childcare + healthcare + activities) × analysis months.

6. Income share target: Logged shared costs × each parent’s income ratio.

7. Balance score: 100 − (absolute difference from 50% × 2), never below zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can this calculator show whether a plan is really 50 50?

Yes. The calculator shows parenting percentages and the day gap from an exact half split, so you can see whether your schedule stays balanced over the chosen period.

2. Do holiday adjustments matter that much?

Overnights are the most common custody measure, but holiday days and vacation blocks can shift the final percentage. Enter those adjustments for a clearer result.

3. Is this a legal determination?

No. It is a planning tool, not legal advice. Courts, mediators, and local rules may define parenting time, expenses, and support differently.

4. How are reimbursement suggestions calculated?

Enter the shared costs already paid by each parent during the period. The tool then compares equal sharing and income-based sharing for reimbursement planning.

5. Can I use a short review period instead of a full year?

Yes. Use shorter analysis periods for monthly reviews or longer ones for yearly planning. The projected end date changes automatically from your start date.

6. What happens if my repeating cycle is uneven?

If your repeating cycle is uneven, the balance score and percentage gap will show the difference. You can then test new day allocations before finalizing a plan.

7. Can this replace tax or legal advice?

It helps with organization, but it does not replace a tax or legal professional. Credits, deductions, and support treatment vary by location.

8. Can I export the results after calculation?

Yes. Save the file on your server, open it in a browser, submit the form, then use the CSV or PDF buttons to export the displayed results.
