Formula Used

This calculator blends schedule-based care time with income-based cost capacity.

Parent A Assigned Days Regular Overnights + Holiday Days + Vacation Days + Special Event Days
Custody Share Parent Assigned Days ÷ Total Assigned Days
Annual Child Cost (Monthly Housing + Food + Childcare + Education + Medical + Activities + Transport + Miscellaneous) × 12 + Annual Extraordinary Cost
Income Share Parent Annual Income ÷ Combined Annual Income
Variable Cost Portion Annual Child Cost × Variable Cost Ratio
Fixed Cost Portion Annual Child Cost − Variable Cost Portion
Recommended Parent Responsibility (Variable Cost Portion × Custody Share) + (Fixed Cost Portion × Income Share)
Balancing Transfer Difference between recommended responsibility and direct payments, assigned from the underpaying parent to the overpaying parent
Interpretation tip: Variable costs include daily spending that follows the child, while fixed costs include bills that often depend more on household income capacity.

FAQs

1. What does this calculator estimate?

It estimates parenting-time percentages, yearly child-cost responsibility, payment alignment, and a suggested balancing transfer using schedule and income inputs together.

2. Does this replace a legal custody order?

No. It is a planning tool only. Court orders, local law, mediation terms, and attorney guidance always take priority over any calculator result.

3. Why use overnights and special days?

Overnights often reflect practical care time, while holidays, vacations, and special events can meaningfully change the yearly split. Including them makes the estimate more realistic.

4. What is the variable cost ratio?

It is the share of total child costs that moves with parenting time, such as food or day-to-day care. The remaining portion is treated as fixed.

5. What if my assigned days do not equal the full cycle?

The calculator flags missing or duplicated days. For the cleanest result, allocate the full cycle once across both parents without overlap.

6. Can I use this for rotating schedules?

Yes. Convert your repeating pattern into yearly day totals first. Then add holiday overrides, vacation blocks, and one-off special allocations.

7. How does the transfer suggestion work?

It compares each parent’s recommended annual responsibility with the direct payments entered. The underpaying parent is shown as paying the overpaying parent.

8. Can I change the currency?

Yes. Enter any currency label, such as USD or PKR. The calculator keeps the same math and simply updates the displayed label.
