Formula Used

Current nursing estimate
Nursing intake (ml) = (Left minutes + Right minutes) × Transfer rate (ml/min)

Current session estimate
Session intake (ml) = Bottle amount + Current nursing estimate

Estimated daily intake
Daily intake (ml) = Daily bottle total + (Daily nursing minutes × Transfer rate)

Estimated daily goal
Goal (ml/day) = Baby weight (kg) × Goal intake (ml/kg/day)

Goal completion
Completion (%) = Estimated daily intake ÷ Daily goal × 100

Feeding rhythm score
Rhythm score = (Frequency score + Interval score + Hydration score) ÷ 3

Breastfeeding transfer varies widely. This calculator uses your selected transfer rate for planning consistency, not exact clinical measurement.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the baby’s date, age, weight, and the current feeding type.
  2. Add the session start time, end time, and the previous feed’s ending time.
  3. Record left and right nursing minutes, bottle amount, and any pumped output.
  4. Fill in totals already completed earlier in the day for feeds, bottle intake, nursing minutes, and pumping.

FAQs

1. What does this tracker estimate?

It estimates current session intake, daily intake, feeding intervals, pumping totals, diaper-linked hydration progress, and a simple planning score for feed rhythm.

2. Is breastfeeding intake measured exactly?

No. Direct nursing volume is estimated from total nursing minutes and your chosen transfer rate. That helps organize records, but it cannot replace weighted feeds or clinical evaluation.

3. Why can I change the transfer rate?

Milk transfer varies by baby, age, latch, and session quality. Editable transfer lets caregivers use a consistent estimate that matches their own tracking habits.

4. What is the feeding rhythm score?

It combines feed frequency, interval timing, and diaper counts into one planning score out of 100. It is only a tracking aid, not a health grade.

5. Does pumped volume count as intake automatically?

No. Pumped output is tracked separately from intake. Only milk actually given by bottle should be entered into bottle amount fields.

6. Can I use it for mixed feeding?

Yes. Enter both nursing minutes and bottle amount in the same session. The calculator combines them into one estimated intake result.

7. What goals should I enter?

Use goals suggested by your pediatrician, lactation consultant, or your own routine. Daily intake and feed frequency can differ by age, growth, and medical needs.

8. Is this medical advice?

No. It is an organizational calculator for caregivers. Contact a qualified clinician if intake, weight gain, hydration, or feeding behavior concerns you.
