Why Balance Matters
Airplane balance is a physics problem with real flight consequences. Every item has weight. Every item also has a station arm. The arm is the distance from the chosen datum. Weight multiplied by arm gives moment. Total moment divided by total weight gives the center of gravity.
CG Limits
A safe airplane is not only below maximum weight. Its center of gravity must stay between approved forward and aft limits. A forward center of gravity can demand more elevator force. It can increase takeoff distance. An aft center of gravity can reduce stability. It can also make stall recovery harder. That is why a balance check belongs in every preflight plan.

Physics Method
The method uses basic rotational equilibrium. Each station creates a moment around the datum. Added stations move the combined center of gravity. Fuel burn removes weight and moment from the fuel station. Because fuel often sits near a different arm, landing balance can shift after flight time. The landing check helps reveal that shift.
Input Accuracy
Good input data matters. Use the current aircraft weight and balance sheet. Use measured passenger and baggage weights when possible. Use the correct fuel weight per gallon. Aviation gasoline is often estimated near six pounds per gallon, but operators may use a specific value. Jet fuel may differ. Always follow the aircraft handbook.
Reading the Output
The output table is useful for review. It shows each station, weight, arm, and moment. It also reports remaining capacity, moment totals, and center of gravity margins. Green or red colors are not needed. The status text explains whether values are inside or outside limits.
