Formula Used
This calculator uses circumference measurements as physical inputs. The band is estimated from snug and tight underbust values. The tight value acts like a compression reference. The bust value is a weighted average of standing, leaning, and lying bust measurements.
Effective bust: standing bust × weight + leaning bust × weight + lying bust × weight.
Band estimate: nearest even number of weighted underbust plus optional adjustment.
Cup difference: effective bust minus final band size. Each one inch of difference moves about one cup step. The calculator also estimates sister sizes. Sister sizing keeps cup volume similar while changing band length.
Because fabric stretch, wire shape, posture, and brand grading vary, the result is a strong starting point. It should be compared with real fit checks.
How to Use This Calculator
- Choose inches or centimeters before entering measurements.
- Measure snug underbust while the tape is level.
- Measure tight underbust without causing pain.
- Measure standing bust around the fullest point.
- Measure leaning bust while bending forward.
- Measure lying bust while lying flat.
- Select your cup system and preferred band feel.
- Press calculate and review the main size.
- Compare the sister sizes for comfort testing.
- Download the result as CSV or PDF.
Bra Sizing and Fit Physics
Why Measurements Matter
Bra sizing starts with body circumference. A tape measure records distance around the ribcage and bust. These values act like simple geometry. The band size describes the base support circle. The cup size describes the extra bust depth above that circle.
Band Support
A bra band works like an elastic ring. It stretches around the torso and creates gentle tension. Too little tension can make the band ride upward. Too much tension can cause discomfort. This calculator compares snug and tight underbust measurements. That comparison helps estimate ribcage compression and comfort range.
Cup Volume
Cup size is not a fixed object. A D cup on a 30 band is smaller than a D cup on a 38 band. This is why sister sizing matters. Sister sizes trade band length against cup letter. They often hold similar volume. They can feel very different on the body.
Shape and Projection
Standing, leaning, and lying bust values show how tissue moves with posture. A large leaning difference often means more projection. A small difference may mean a shallow shape. The calculator uses weighted bust logic to balance those views. This gives a better estimate than one bust measurement alone.
Using the Result
Treat the answer as a fitting range, not a medical or tailoring rule. Try the main size first. Then test the sister sizes. Check the center gore, wire width, cup edge, strap comfort, and band level. A good fit feels stable, smooth, and supportive through normal movement.
FAQs
1. Is this calculator exact?
No calculator is exact for every body or brand. This tool gives a strong starting size using multiple measurements, cup difference, and sister sizing logic.
2. Why do I need three bust measurements?
Standing, leaning, and lying bust values show different tissue positions. Using all three can improve estimates for projected, shallow, soft, or uneven shapes.
3. What is a sister size?
A sister size changes the band while adjusting the cup letter. It keeps cup volume close, but changes how firm or relaxed the band feels.
4. Should my band feel tight?
The band should feel secure, level, and supportive. It should not hurt, dig sharply, or restrict breathing during normal movement.
5. Why does cup lettering change by country?
Different regions use different cup progressions after D. This calculator includes US style and UK style labels for easier comparison.
6. What if my result feels too small?
Try the sister size with a larger band or increase the cup one step. Brand shape, wire width, and fabric stretch can change fit.
7. What if my cups gap?
Cup gapping may mean the cup is too large, too tall, too shallow, or the style does not match your shape.
8. Can I use centimeters?
Yes. Select centimeters before entering measurements. The calculator converts them internally and returns the estimated band and cup size.
