170 cm Medium Average 67.2 kg 53.5 - 72.0 kg
178 cm Medium Average 73.4 kg 58.6 - 78.9 kg
183 cm Large Devine 82.5 kg 61.9 - 83.4 kg
188 cm Small Robinson 76.2 kg 65.4 - 88.0 kg

Formula Used

The calculator compares several accepted ideal body weight formulas for men. Most classic formulas start with a base weight for five feet of height. Then they add a fixed amount for each inch above five feet.

Devine uses 50 + 2.3 × inches over 60. Robinson uses 52 + 1.9 × inches over 60. Miller uses 56.2 + 1.41 × inches over 60. Hamwi uses 48 + 2.7 × inches over 60.

Lorentz uses height cm - 100 - ((height cm - 150) / 4). The target BMI method uses BMI × height². The Peterson method uses 2.2 × BMI + 3.5 × BMI × (height m - 1.5).

Frame size adjusts the final estimate. Small frame applies 95%. Medium frame applies 100%. Large frame applies 105%.

How to Use This Calculator

Select your height input type first. Enter height in centimeters, inches, or feet with inches. Add age and current weight if you want a comparison. Choose the current weight unit and the output unit.

Select your body frame. Use small if your wrist and build are narrow. Use medium for an average build. Use large for broad shoulders, wrists, or bone structure. Pick a preferred formula or keep the average option.

Enter a target BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. Press the calculate button. The result appears above the form and below the header. You can download the result as CSV or PDF.

Ideal Weight for Men Guide

Why Ideal Weight Matters

Ideal weight is a useful planning number. It helps men compare height, mass, and body structure. It is not a perfect health score. Muscle, bone size, water, and training history matter. Still, a clear estimate can guide weight goals. It can also support fitness tracking. Men often use ideal weight during diet planning. It also helps during strength or endurance programs.

Why Several Formulas Are Compared

No single formula fits every man. Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi use height rules. They were designed for practical weight estimates. Lorentz gives another height based view. BMI based methods add a modern reference point. Comparing formulas gives a better range. It also reduces dependence on one equation.

Frame Size and Body Build

Frame size changes the meaning of weight. A small frame may weigh less at the same height. A large frame may weigh more. This calculator adjusts results by frame size. The adjustment is simple. It gives a practical estimate. It should not replace body composition testing.

Understanding the Result

The recommended value is a guide. The BMI range gives a wider safety band. If current weight is entered, the tool shows BMI. It also shows the difference from the estimate. This can help with goal setting. Use slow changes for weight plans. Extreme changes are rarely useful. A trained professional can help with medical concerns.

Best Use Cases

Use this calculator for personal planning. Use it before setting calorie targets. Use it when comparing several formulas. Use it when a simple scale goal feels unclear. Athletes should read the result carefully. More muscle can raise body weight. The best weight supports energy, strength, and health.

FAQs

1. What is an ideal weight for men calculator?

It estimates a practical male weight using height, body frame, BMI targets, and several recognized formulas. It gives a guide, not a medical diagnosis.

2. Which formula is best for men?

No formula is best for every man. The average option is useful because it combines several methods and reduces dependence on one equation.

3. Does body frame affect ideal weight?

Yes. A larger frame can support more body mass. A smaller frame may fit a lower estimate. This calculator adjusts by frame size.

4. Is BMI included in the calculation?

Yes. The calculator includes a target BMI method and also shows the healthy BMI range from 18.5 to 24.9.

5. Can athletic men weigh more than the result?

Yes. Athletes often carry more lean mass. Their best weight may be higher than formula estimates while still supporting good health.

6. Why enter current weight?

Current weight lets the calculator estimate BMI and compare your present weight with the selected ideal weight result.

7. Can I export my result?

Yes. After calculating, use the CSV or PDF buttons. They save the main result, formula comparison, and selected inputs.

8. Is this calculator medical advice?

No. It is an educational planning tool. Speak with a qualified health professional for medical, nutrition, or disease related decisions.
