For two points A(x₁, y₁, z₁) and B(x₂, y₂, z₂), the midpoint is:

M = ((x₁ + x₂) / 2, (y₁ + y₂) / 2, (z₁ + z₂) / 2)

Distance Formula

For three dimensions, the straight distance is:

d = √((x₂ - x₁)² + (y₂ - y₁)² + (z₂ - z₁)²)

A zero distance means both points are the same. Direction and unit vector are then not defined. A vertical two dimensional line has an undefined slope. These cases are not errors. They are natural results of the formulas.
