Formula Used

The calculator converts all measurements to inches first. The weighted bust value uses this formula:

Weighted Bust = Standing Bust × 0.50 + Leaning Bust × 0.35 + Lying Bust × 0.15

The modern band method rounds snug underbust to the nearest even band. The traditional method adds four or five inches before rounding. The compression method blends snug and tight underbust readings.

Cup difference is calculated as:

Cup Difference = Weighted Bust − Band Size

Each one inch of difference moves about one cup step. Sister sizes are calculated by changing the band by two and moving the cup in the opposite direction.

Example Data Table

Unit Snug Underbust Tight Underbust Standing Bust Leaning Bust Lying Bust Method Estimated Result
Inches 33 31.5 38 39 37.5 Modern 34D
Inches 36 34.5 42 43 41.5 Modern 36DDD/F
Centimeters 80 77 95 98 94 Compression Approx. 75E

Bra Size Measurement Guide

Why Measurement Based Sizing Matters

Bra sizing is not a guess. It starts with repeatable body measurements. A firm band supports most of the garment load. Cups guide volume and shape. Small tape changes can move a person into another size. That is why this calculator accepts several bust positions. It also accepts snug and tight underbust values. These inputs reduce errors from posture, breathing, and soft tissue movement.

How the Calculator Uses Physics

The calculator treats the band as a circular support path. The underbust measurement estimates that path. The tight value estimates compression tolerance. The bust values estimate projected volume. A weighted bust average is then compared with the chosen band. The difference becomes the cup step. Each one inch of difference moves about one cup level in common United States sizing. This is a practical retail model. It is not a medical or custom garment rule.

Advanced Fit Review

The fit preference changes how the answer is interpreted. A firm setting favors steadier support. A relaxed setting may suggest more comfort. A sports style usually needs less bounce and more control. A wireless style may need softer tension. The calculator also shows sister sizes. Sister sizes keep similar cup volume while changing band length. They are useful when a size feels close but not perfect.

Using Results Wisely

Measure over a thin, unpadded layer. Keep the tape level around the body. Do not pull the bust tape tight. Recheck numbers if the bust positions differ greatly. Try the main size first. Then test sister sizes if the band rides up or cups gape. Brand shapes can vary. Fabric stretch also changes the final feel.

About Playtex Style Shopping

This page is a sizing helper for Playtex style shopping. It is not an official brand fitting service. Use the result as a strong starting point. Review product size charts before buying. Fit is best confirmed by comfort, support, and smooth cup placement. Keep records from each fitting. Weight, posture, and garment design may change the answer. A saved result helps compare future purchases with less confusion. Repeat measurements every few months for the best fit.

FAQs

Is this an official Playtex calculator?

No. It is an independent sizing helper for shopping research. Always compare the result with the product size chart.

Why does the calculator ask for three bust measurements?

Different positions show different bust projection. A weighted average can reduce errors caused by posture, shape, and tape placement.

Can I use centimeters?

Yes. Select centimeters before entering values. The calculator converts them internally and then displays the selected sizing region.

What are sister sizes?

Sister sizes have similar cup volume with a different band. One band down usually needs one cup up. One band up usually needs one cup down.

Why did relaxed fit change my result?

Relaxed fit adds band ease. Since cup volume changes with band length, the calculator adjusts the cup step to keep balance.

Why is this listed under Physics?

The calculator uses circumference, compression, elastic allowance, and volume difference. These ideas relate to basic measurement physics.

Should I choose firm or balanced fit?

Choose balanced for normal daily wear. Choose firm for more support. Avoid painful tightness in any style.

How often should I measure again?

Measure again after weight change, posture change, pregnancy, surgery, or discomfort. Rechecking every few months can improve fit accuracy.
