Formula Used

Heat Index: The calculator uses the Rothfusz regression for conditions near or above 80 °F. It also applies the common dry air and humid air adjustments.

T is dry bulb temperature in °F. R is relative humidity in percent. Below the regression range, a simpler apparent temperature average is used.

Wet bulb estimate: The Stull approximation estimates wet bulb temperature from Celsius air temperature and relative humidity.

Screening WBGT estimate: WBGT ≈ 0.7Tw + 0.2Tg + 0.1Ta. The globe term is estimated from sun, cloud, and wind. A measured WBGT value should replace the estimate when available.

Gear adjustment: The calculator adds 5 °F for a rucksack or body armor. It adds 10 °F for chemical protective gear. These additions are planning adjustments, not medical clearance.
