Shirt Size Height Weight Calculator

Find shirt size from height and weight. Adjust frame, fit, units, and preferred comfort allowance. Review garment chest before choosing your final size carefully.

Formula Used

The calculator converts height and weight into metric values first.

BMI = weight in kg / height in meters²

Estimated body chest = 0.54 × height cm + 0.35 × weight kg − 28 + frame adjustment

Target garment chest = estimated body chest + fit ease

Frame adjustment is −3 cm for narrow, 0 cm for medium, and +3 cm for broad. Fit ease is 6 cm for slim, 10 cm for regular, and 14 cm for relaxed.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter your height and weight. Select the correct units. Choose your body frame and preferred fit. Add tolerance if you want wider matching around size boundaries. Press the calculate button. The result appears above the form and below the header. Download the result as a CSV or PDF file when needed.

Example Data Table

165 cm 58 kg Narrow Slim S 91 cm
175 cm 75 kg Medium Regular M 102 cm
183 cm 88 kg Broad Relaxed XL 114 cm
190 cm 105 kg Broad Regular XXL 122 cm

Overview

A shirt size calculator based on height and weight gives a quick starting point before detailed tailoring. It uses body mass, stature, and fit preference to estimate a likely chest range. The result is not a replacement for a tape measure. It is a practical guide when only basic body data is available.

Why Height and Weight Matter

Height affects shoulder width, torso length, and sleeve reach. Weight affects body volume and chest circumference. Physics helps because mass is distributed through a three dimensional body. Two people with the same weight can still need different sizes. Frame type and fit choice refine the estimate.

Body Mass Logic

The calculator first normalizes height and weight into metric units. It then calculates body mass index. BMI is not a clothing size. It is only a ratio that helps compare mass to height. A higher ratio usually increases the estimated chest range. A lower ratio usually narrows the range.

Fit Allowance

Shirts need ease. Ease is extra room added beyond the estimated body chest. A slim shirt uses less ease. A regular shirt uses moderate ease. A relaxed shirt adds more space for movement. This calculator includes that allowance before choosing the nearest size.

Frame Adjustment

Body frame changes the result. A narrow frame can reduce shoulder and chest needs. A broad frame can increase them. The calculator applies a small adjustment, so the recommendation feels more realistic. This is useful for athletic, stocky, or very lean builds.

Using the Result

Use the recommended size as a first pick. Check the target garment chest and compare it with a brand chart. Choose the larger size when you are between sizes. Choose the smaller size only when you prefer a close fit and fabric has stretch.

Practical Notes

The method works best for casual shirts, T shirts, and simple size charts. Formal shirts still need neck and sleeve measurements. Different brands cut patterns differently. Washing shrinkage can also change fit. Export the result, compare examples, and review the size before buying.

Best Data

For best accuracy, enter current body weight and standing height. Measure after removing shoes. Recheck values when weight changes. A small data change can move the recommendation near a size boundary quickly.

FAQs

1. Can height and weight predict shirt size exactly?

No. They give a useful estimate. Exact sizing still depends on chest, shoulder, neck, sleeve, brand pattern, and fabric stretch.

2. Why does the calculator use BMI?

BMI helps compare body mass with height. It does not decide size alone. It supports the chest estimate and confidence score.

3. What is garment chest?

Garment chest is the shirt chest measurement, not the body chest. It includes ease for comfort, breathing, and movement.

4. Should I choose slim or regular fit?

Choose slim for a closer look. Choose regular for everyday comfort. Choose relaxed when you want more movement room.

5. What if my result is between sizes?

Pick the larger size for comfort. Pick the smaller size only when you prefer a tight fit and the fabric stretches.

6. Does this work for formal shirts?

It gives a starting point. Formal shirts also need neck and sleeve measurements, especially for dress codes or tailoring.

7. Why include body frame?

Frame affects shoulder and chest width. A broad frame may need more room, while a narrow frame may need less.

8. Can I export the result?

Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet records. Use the PDF button for a simple printable size report.
