Formula Used
Volume = length × width × height.
Dimensional weight = ceiling(volume ÷ dimensional divisor).
Billable weight = greater value of actual weight and dimensional weight.
Zone multiplier = 1 + ((zone - 1) × zone increase percent).
Transport charge = (base rate + billable weight × rate per pound) × zone multiplier.
Fuel charge = (transport charge + surcharges) × fuel percent.
Total = transport charge + surcharges + fuel charge - discount + tax.

The calculator compares actual weight with dimensional weight. It then uses the larger value as billable weight. This helps show when air space inside the carton is raising the estimate.
Rate inputs and zone effects
The zone field represents shipping distance bands. A higher zone usually means a longer route and a higher line haul cost. The zone increase input lets you model that rise without using fixed tables. You can adjust base rate and rate per pound to match a published estimate, a store rule, or a negotiated account sheet.
Surcharges and fuel
Ground prices often include extra charges. Residential delivery, delivery area fees, signature service, declared value, and additional handling can change the final charge. Fuel also affects the estimate. This tool applies fuel after transportation and selected surcharges. You may change that method by editing the formula section in the file.
