  • Issue Severity: sum of weights for each detected issue, capped at 100.
  • Health Score: 100 − Severity, floored at 0.
  • Site Score: average of page health scores across checked URLs.
  • Labels: OK (0), Minor (1–20), Warning (21–50), Critical (51–100).

1) What is a canonical tag?

It is a link element that signals the preferred URL version of a page. It helps consolidate signals across duplicates, tracking URLs, and similar pages.

2) Why do canonical mismatches matter?

A mismatch can indicate duplication, redirect confusion, or policy drift. Search engines may ignore conflicting canonicals, which can weaken consolidation and slow indexing decisions.

3) Should every page have a canonical?

Most indexable pages should. Some sites rely on consistent internal linking and redirects, but a clear canonical reduces ambiguity for parameterized or near-duplicate URLs.

4) What does “canonical target redirects” mean?

It means the canonical URL itself forwards elsewhere. Point canonicals directly to the final 200 URL to avoid chains and reduce mixed signals.

5) How does “strip query parameters” help?

It compares URLs without tracking strings like utm parameters. That helps you confirm whether canonicals correctly consolidate parameterized versions into a clean preferred URL.

6) Can cross-domain canonicals be valid?

Yes, for syndicated content or migrations, but they are easy to misconfigure. Keep the option off unless you intentionally canonicalize to another domain.

7) What if a page is noindex?

Noindex pages can still have canonicals, but the directive may override indexing. The tool flags noindex so you can confirm the page is intentionally excluded.

8) Why does the score cap severity at 100?
