Formula Used
The calculator supports three pricing approaches so teams can mirror carrier tariffs, internal recovery policies, or customer contracts.
1) Effective trigger
Effective Trigger = max(Baseline Fuel Price, Trigger Fuel Price)
Only fuel price above the effective trigger creates a surcharge.
2) Index step method
Steps Crossed = floor((Current Fuel Price − Effective Trigger) ÷ Price Step)
Surcharge Rate = Steps Crossed × Percent Per Step
Index Surcharge = Base Freight × Surcharge Rate
3) Direct recovery method
Fuel Units Used = Distance ÷ Fuel Economy
Fuel Delta Cost = Fuel Units Used × (Current Fuel Price − Effective Trigger)
Direct Recovery = Fuel Delta Cost × Recovery Rate
Final surcharge subtotal = chosen method result + flat fuel fee, then adjusted by minimum and maximum fee rules.
Total surcharge per shipment = final subtotal + tax amount.
