Formula used
1) Volume and volumetric weight
Volume (CBM) = Length × Width × Height × Packages ÷ 1,000,000. Volumetric weight = Total cubic centimeters ÷ Volumetric divisor.
2) Chargeable quantity
For air, courier, and road shipments, Chargeable weight = greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. For sea freight, Revenue ton = greater of CBM and actual weight in metric tons.
3) Freight and surcharges
Gross freight = max(Minimum charge, Chargeable quantity × Rate × Route factor × Service multiplier). Net freight = Gross freight − Discount. Fuel and security surcharges are percentages of net freight.
4) Customs and tax
Customs value = Invoice value + Net freight + Fuel + Security + Insurance + Handling. Duty = Customs value × Duty rate. Tax = (Customs value + Duty + Brokerage + Documentation) × Tax rate.
5) Total landed cost
Total landed cost = Invoice value + Logistics subtotal + Duty + Tax. Converted total = Total landed cost × Exchange rate.

FAQs
1. What is chargeable weight in international shipping?
Chargeable weight is the billable shipment quantity. Carriers usually compare actual weight with volumetric weight and charge the higher figure. Sea freight often uses revenue tons instead.
2. Why does volumetric divisor matter?
The divisor converts package volume into billable weight. Lower divisors create higher volumetric weight, which increases charges for light but bulky cargo.
3. Does this calculator include customs duty and tax?
Yes. It estimates customs duty and tax using the customs value, duty percentage, tax percentage, and declared logistics charges you enter.
4. Can I compare air and sea freight with this tool?
Yes. Switch the shipment mode and rate assumptions to compare freight behavior, transit time, and landed cost across major transport options.
5. What does total landed cost mean?
Total landed cost is the full cost to receive goods, including invoice value, freight, surcharges, insurance, customs duty, tax, and selected handling fees.
6. Is the route factor an exact carrier tariff?
No. It is a planning estimate based on regional distance. Final quotations depend on airline, vessel, carrier contracts, lane congestion, and local regulations.
7. Can I export the result after calculation?
Yes. After calculating, you can download the result table as CSV or export a PDF snapshot for reporting, review, or client sharing.
8. Should I rely on this tool for customs filing?
Use it for planning and budgeting, not final compliance filing. Always verify HS codes, customs valuation rules, taxes, and broker guidance before shipment clearance.
