Lunar Age Calculator

Formula Used

Elapsed days: target date minus birth date.

Counted lunar days: elapsed days plus one, when birth day counting is enabled.

Exact lunar months: counted lunar days ÷ synodic month length.

Exact lunar years: counted lunar days ÷ selected lunar year length.

Traditional lunar age: target lunar year − birth lunar year + 1.

Moon phase age: days from a known new moon, reduced by the synodic month cycle.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your birth date.
  2. Enter the target date for the age calculation.
  3. Keep the default synodic month for common moon cycle estimates.
  4. Change the lunar year length only for special statistical tests.
  5. Select a rounding mode for summary lunar months and years.
  6. Press the calculate button to view results below the header.
  7. Use the export buttons to save your result.

About Lunar Age Statistics

Lunar age gives another view of time. It measures life through moon based cycles. A solar birthday follows the sun. A lunar age follows lunar years or lunar calendar rules. This calculator joins both ideas in one tool.

Why Lunar Age Matters

Many people use lunar age for cultural records. Others use it for study, planning, and personal statistics. It can show how many synodic months you have lived. It can also show your age using the traditional Chinese lunar year method. That method starts a baby at age one. It then increases age at each lunar new year.

Statistical Use

The statistical side is useful. It converts your lived days into lunar months and lunar years. It also gives decimal results. These values help compare solar time and moon time. A person may be thirty solar years old. The same person has lived more than three hundred seventy lunar months. That number feels different. It shows time in smaller natural cycles.

How The Tool Helps

The calculator accepts a birth date and a target date. It checks the order of dates. It then finds total elapsed days. It divides those days by the selected synodic month length. It also divides days by a chosen lunar year length. You may change these constants. This is helpful for classroom work and sensitivity checks.

Traditional Lunar Age

The tool also estimates Chinese style lunar age. It converts each date to a lunar calendar year. The result is target lunar year minus birth lunar year, plus one. This matches the common age counting idea. It is not the same as exact modern age. It is a cultural counting system.

Export And Review

Results can be downloaded as CSV. They can also be saved as a PDF report. The example table shows how values change by date. Use it to test entries before using personal data.

Best Practice

Use accurate birth dates whenever possible. Keep the default month length for standard moon cycle estimates. Change constants only when a teacher, study, or method requires it. Read every result label carefully. Lunar age can mean different things in different cultures. This page shows those meanings side by side for easy comparison.

FAQs

What is lunar age?

Lunar age can mean age counted by lunar calendar years, or age measured through moon cycles. This calculator shows both ideas so you can compare them easily.

Is traditional lunar age the same as normal age?

No. Normal age starts at zero and grows on birthdays. Traditional lunar age commonly starts at one and increases at each lunar new year.

What is a synodic month?

A synodic month is the average time from one new moon to the next. The default value is 29.530588853 days.

Why does the calculator count birth day?

Some lunar age systems count the birth day as day one. You can turn this option off when you want pure elapsed days.

Can I change the lunar year length?

Yes. The default is an average lunar year length. Change it for class work, research checks, or another accepted method.

What date range is supported?

The traditional lunar date conversion supports dates from January 31, 1900, through December 31, 2100. Cycle estimates still depend on valid inputs.

Why are decimal lunar months useful?

Decimal lunar months show exact cycle progress. They are helpful when studying patterns, timing, trends, or personal statistics.

Can I export the result?

Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet records. Use the PDF button when you need a simple printable report.
