Example Data Table

Scenario Level Power Attack Defense Modifier Notes
Neutral Strike 50 80 120 100 STAB x1.5, neutral type x1
Strong Matchup 75 100 180 130 STAB x1.5, type x2, item x1.2
Resisted Hit 50 90 140 160 Type x0.5, no weather boost

Formula Used

The calculator uses the common damage structure: Damage = floor(((((2 × Level ÷ 5 + 2) × Power × Attack ÷ Defense) ÷ 50) + 2) × Modifier).

Modifier combines target count, weather, critical hit, random roll, same type attack bonus, type effectiveness, burn, screens, item, ability, and other custom effects. The random roll is evaluated from 85% to 100%.

How To Use This Calculator

Enter the attacker level, move power, attacking stat, defending stat, and target HP. Then choose battle modifiers that match the situation. Press calculate to view minimum damage, maximum damage, average damage, and knockout chances. Use the roll table to inspect every possible random damage value.

Pokemon Damage Formula Guide

Why Damage Rolls Matter

Pokemon damage is not a single fixed number. It is a range. The random part usually moves from eighty five percent to one hundred percent. This makes planning more statistical. A move may look safe by average damage, yet still miss a knockout on lower rolls.

Core Battle Inputs

Level, move power, attack, and defense create the base result. Higher level and stronger power raise damage fast. Attack and defense then shape the matchup. Physical moves normally use Attack and Defense. Special moves normally use Special Attack and Special Defense.

Modifier Layers

Modifiers turn a simple number into a real battle estimate. Same type attack bonus rewards a user when the move shares a type with the attacker. Type effectiveness can double damage, halve damage, or remove damage completely. Weather may boost or weaken certain move types.

Critical Hits And Protection

Critical hits increase final damage. Screens and protection effects reduce it. Burn can reduce physical move damage when the attacker is burned. Items and abilities add more flexible changes. These inputs are separated so you can test one effect at a time.

Using Results In Planning

The minimum value shows the safest damage expectation. The maximum value shows the best possible roll. Average damage helps compare options. Knockout chance links damage to the target HP. This is useful for team testing, matchup notes, and move choice.

Practical Review

Always compare several scenarios. Change one field, then calculate again. This makes the result easier to understand. You can export the data for notes. The table also helps explain why two similar moves may perform differently in battle.

FAQs

What does this calculator estimate?

It estimates possible move damage using level, power, battle stats, random rolls, and major modifiers.

Why are there sixteen damage rolls?

The random modifier commonly ranges from 85% to 100%. That creates sixteen possible integer roll values.

What is STAB?

STAB means same type attack bonus. It applies when the move type matches one of the attacker types.

How should I enter item effects?

Enter the item multiplier directly. Use 1 for no item boost, 1.2 for a twenty percent boost, or another valid value.

Can I calculate special move damage?

Yes. Enter Special Attack as the attack value and Special Defense as the defense value.

What does target HP do?

Target HP helps calculate damage percent, one hit knockout chance, and two hit knockout chance.

Why is minimum damage important?

Minimum damage shows the weakest roll. It helps judge whether a knockout is guaranteed.

Can this handle custom battle rules?

Yes. Use item, ability, and other modifier fields to test custom formats, house rules, or unusual effects.
