Formula used

The generator treats the map as a bounded grid. Room dimensions are sampled from selected size ranges. Candidate rooms are rejected when they overlap existing rooms. Corridors connect room centers through orthogonal paths. Extra connections are added when looped layouts are selected. Secret rooms use the chosen percentage as probability. Traps and treasures use density multipliers. Encounters consider party level and selected difficulty. A deterministic seeded random function controls every generated choice.

Map distance equals grid cells multiplied by map scale. For example, six cells at five feet equal thirty feet. Room area equals width multiplied by height. The exploration estimate compares walkable cells against total map cells. These formulas provide useful planning values without forcing a specific game system.

How to use this calculator

Select a map type and desired dimensions first. Choose layout behavior and room generation options. Adjust corridors, doors, secret rooms, and dungeon floors. Add terrain, traps, treasure, encounters, NPCs, and hazards. Choose a theme, atmosphere, and lighting style. Enter a seed when repeatable generation is important. Press Generate map to create all selected floors.

Use the floor selector to inspect connected levels. Switch between GM and player views when needed. Player view hides secrets, traps, and concealed information. Use editor tools to add or remove features. Drag rooms when manual layout changes are required. Save notes for individual rooms during preparation. Use the measurement tool for quick distance checks.

Export the map as PNG or scalable SVG. JSON preserves structured dungeon information for later use. CSV exports the generated room and encounter details. The PDF button opens a print-ready version. Your browser can save that view as PDF. Shareable configuration copies the current settings and seed. Reusing that link recreates matching generation settings.

Generation notes

Large maps need more room placement attempts. Very dense settings may reduce successful room counts. The generator keeps margins between most chambers. Caves and mazes loosen several rectangular assumptions. Water and hazards appear as additional map markers. Vertical features can create stairs, ladders, shafts, or bridges. Faction markers help divide large locations into territories.

The editor keeps a local history for undo operations. Regenerating replaces the current generated dungeon state. Exported JSON keeps room notes and floor data. SVG remains suitable for vector editing elsewhere. PNG works well for virtual tabletop uploads. Printed player maps avoid revealing hidden dungeon information.

This tool is system-neutral by default. Encounter labels remain descriptive instead of rules dependent. Difficulty estimates provide guidance rather than exact balance. Game masters should adjust encounters for their own rules. Generated maps are starting points for creative adventures. Customize every result carefully to fit your campaign needs.
