Example Data Table

Scenario GHG (kg CO2e) Energy (kWh) Water (m³) Haz. Waste (kg) Toxicity Recyclability %
Baseline Batch 420 2600 42 24 58 36
Optimized Solvent Recovery 315 2100 30 15 49 52
Renewable Feedstock Mix 280 2250 34 18 45 61

Formula Used

Step 1: Normalize each impact input against a reference threshold.

Normalized Burden: Input Value / Reference Value

Step 2: Convert user weights into proportions.

Normalized Weight: Individual Weight / Sum of All Weights

Step 3: Multiply each normalized burden by its normalized weight and by 100.

Weighted Burden Index: Σ(Normalized Burden × Normalized Weight × 100)

Step 4: Convert burden into a positive score.

Environmental Impact Score: 100 − Weighted Burden Index

A higher score means lower environmental pressure. Recyclability and renewable content reduce burden through inverse treatment.
