Rooms & Areas
Room Shape L W L2 W2 Notes Strips Seam Len Eff Area

Shapes: Rect uses L×W. L-shape uses L,W,L2,W2. Trapezoid uses Bases L & L2 with W as height. All dimensions follow the selected unit system.

Stairs Module
0 = full width
Length per step ≈ tread + riser + nosing; cap-and-band adds ~2× riser per step. Module auto-converts to project units.

How to use
  1. Enter project settings, roll width, repeats, selvage, and extra waste.
  2. Add each room with the correct shape and dimensions. The tool computes strips, seams, and effective area.
  3. Fill the stairs module if needed.
  4. Set pricing for materials, pad, labor, and any services. Add accessories.
  5. Review totals, waste, seams, and rolls. Export CSV/PDF or print.
Formulas used (summary)
  • Rect area = L × W. L-shape = L×W + L2×W2. Trapezoid = (L + L2)/2 × W.
  • Repeat adjustment: effL = ceil(L / repL) × repL; effW = ceil(W / repW) × repW (repX=0 → no change).
  • Net strips = ceil( effW / (rollWidth - 2×selvage) ). Seam length ≈ (strips-1) × effL.
  • Area w/ waste = Σ(effL × effW) × (1 + waste%).
  • Stairs length per step ≈ tread + riser + nosing (+ riser if cap-and-band); width = runner or stair width.
  • Linear feet needed ≈ totalArea / rollWidth.
  • Roll count ≈ ceil( linearFeet / rollLength ).
  • Costs: material = area×$/sqft; pad = area×$/sqft; labor = (area/9)×$/sqyd; services = tearout×area + disposal×area + delivery + misc + accessories.
  • Tax = rate × taxable subtotal. Monthly payment PMT = P×r/(1-(1+r)^-n), r=APR/12.

FAQs

Repeats require aligning motifs at seams. The tool inflates each piece to the nearest repeat length and width before optimization so patterns align across strips.

Simple rectangles may be 5–8%. Complex shapes, hallways, heavy repeats, and many seams can push waste to 10–20%+. Start at 5–10% and review the seam map.

Yes—try 12, 13.2, or 15 ft widths. The summary shows strip count and seam length so you can compare waste and seams across roll options.

Enter tread, riser, nosing, width, count, and finish. The module computes runner length and area and includes waste for turns or pattern matching.

Yes. Use the accessories table for Z-bars, edging, stair rods, reducers, adhesives, and other items. Each line item rolls into the total and PDF.

It’s a simplified planner for strip count and seam positions. Always verify against site conditions, traffic paths, lighting, and manufacturer seam guidelines.
