Formulas Used
  • Rectangle area: A = L × W
  • Circle area: A = π × (D/2)²
  • Depth conversion: inches→ft: in ÷ 12, cm→m: cm ÷ 100
  • Volume: V = A × depth (ft³ or m³)
  • Cubic yards: yd³ = ft³ ÷ 27; kilograms: kg = m³ × kg/m³
  • Weight (tons): tons = (ft³ × lb/ft³) ÷ 2000 or kg ÷ 1000
  • Waste factor: multiply by (1 + waste%).
Outputs reflect your selected density unit automatically.
How to Use
  1. Select the unit system and a gravel type.
  2. Add each area row, choose shape, and enter dimensions.
  3. Set depth and waste. Optionally override density and costs.
  4. Set bag size and truck capacity as needed.
  5. Press Calculate to see results and breakdown.
  6. Use CSV or PDF buttons to export summaries and tables.

FAQs

Common driveway layers range 2–4 inches for top dressing and 4–6 inches for base, depending on soil and load. Always follow local specifications.

Presets are typical values. Real density varies with moisture, particle shape, and fines. Use supplier data when available or override with a measured bulk density.

Choose a unit system for plan dimensions; depth and bag size have their own units so you can mix them conveniently. The calculator handles conversions automatically.

After computing base volume and weight, totals are multiplied by (1 + waste%/100) to include cutting, compaction, spillage, and ordering buffer.

Some suppliers quote by ton, others by cubic yard. Enter one or both to get a cost range or to match your vendor’s pricing model.

Yes. Use the “Export Table CSV” and “Export Table PDF” buttons in the Area Breakdown card to export just the per-area computation table.
