Formula used

The calculator first converts the selected input into kilocalories. It then divides that value by your chosen energy basis per kilogram.

Estimated kilograms = Total energy in kcal ÷ Energy basis in kcal per kg

For kilojoules, the conversion is: kilocalories = kilojoules ÷ 4.184. For small calories, the conversion is: kilocalories = calories ÷ 1,000.

A deficit is shown as an estimated loss. A surplus is shown as an estimated gain. The default 7,700 kcal/kg input is adjustable because real body-mass changes do not follow one fixed value.
