Formula Used

  1. Component Percentage = (Component Obtained ÷ Component Total) × 100
  2. Raw Obtained Marks = Theory Obtained + Practical Obtained + Coursework Obtained
  3. Adjusted Obtained Marks = Raw Obtained + Bonus Marks − Penalty Marks
  4. Overall Percentage = (Adjusted Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100
  5. Weighted Percentage = Σ(Component Percentage × Component Weight) ÷ Σ(Weights)
  6. Target Gap = Target Percentage − Overall Percentage, when positive
  7. Marks Needed for Target = ((Target Percentage ÷ 100) × Total Marks) − Adjusted Obtained Marks, when positive
  8. Grade is assigned by comparing the overall percentage with your threshold settings.

FAQs

1. What does this exam percentage calculator measure?

It calculates overall exam percentage from theory, practical, and coursework marks. It also shows weighted score, grade, pass status, target gap, adjusted marks, and exportable result summaries.

2. Can I use it for one subject only?

Yes. Enter marks for just one component and keep other totals at zero. The calculator will still produce the correct percentage and weighted result using available values.

3. Why does it show both overall percentage and weighted percentage?

Overall percentage uses adjusted marks against total marks. Weighted percentage shows performance based on your chosen component importance. Both are useful when institutions publish combined and weighted results separately.

4. What are bonus and penalty marks for?

Bonus marks can reflect grace marks or extra credit. Penalty marks can reflect late submission deductions or misconduct deductions. They adjust obtained marks before the final percentage is calculated.

5. Do the weights need to total exactly 100?

No. The calculator normalizes the weights automatically for the weighted score. Still, using a clean 100% split makes your setup easier to audit and explain.

6. How is the grade assigned?

The calculator compares the final overall percentage with the thresholds you enter for A+, A, B, C, and D. Anything below the D threshold is marked as F.

7. Can I download the results?

Yes. After calculation, you can export the result summary as CSV or PDF. This makes it easier to share with students, parents, teachers, or administrators.

8. Is this useful for target planning?

Yes. It shows the target gap and the marks still needed to reach your desired percentage. That helps students plan revision priorities and performance goals more realistically.
