Example Data Table

Attack Type Defender Type Common Result Reason
Electric Water / Flying 4× weakness Electric is strong against both types.
Ground Electric / Flying 0× immunity Flying blocks Ground unless gravity or another override applies.
Fire Grass / Steel 4× weakness Both Grass and Steel are weak to Fire.
Dragon Fairy 0× immunity Fairy is immune to Dragon moves.

Formula Used

Type multiplier: attack type value against primary type × attack type value against secondary type.

Final type value: type multiplier × ability modifier × item modifier.

Battle modifier: STAB × critical × burn × weather × terrain × spread × helping hand × custom modifier.

Damage estimate: (((2 × level / 5 + 2) × power × attack / defense) / 50 + 2) × final type value × battle modifier × random range.

Understanding Matchups

A Pokémon battle often turns on one small multiplier. A strong attack can fail when the defender resists its type. A modest move can win when it strikes a double weakness. This calculator helps you study that hidden layer before choosing a move. It compares the attacking type against one or two defending types. It then applies optional battle rules, items, abilities, and field effects.

Why Weakness And Resistance Matter

Every type has fixed relationships with the other types. Fire is strong against Grass. Electric does not affect Ground. Ghost ignores Normal. Dual type Pokémon multiply both defensive answers together. A Water move against Rock and Ground becomes four times effective. A Fire move against Water and Dragon becomes one quarter effective. These values shape switching, coverage moves, raids, and team building.

Advanced Options

The extra options make the calculator more useful. Ring Target can remove a normal immunity. Gravity can let Ground moves hit Flying targets. Levitate can block Ground moves. Thick Fat can reduce Fire and Ice damage. Filter and similar abilities soften super effective hits. You can also add STAB, critical hits, weather, terrain, spread damage, burn, and a custom modifier. These settings turn a simple type chart into a planning tool.

Using The Damage Estimate

The damage estimate is not a full battle simulator. It uses the common damage structure with level, base power, attack, defense, random range, and selected modifiers. It is best for comparing choices. Try different attacks and defender types. Then compare the final multiplier and damage range. A lower base power move may still win when its type advantage is better.

Practical Battle Planning

Use this page before raids, friendly matches, or team edits. Test your main coverage attacks first. Then check common threats. Look for types that resist your whole moveset. Add a second attack type to cover those gaps. Keep notes from the result summary. Export the report when you need a quick matchup reference. Good planning saves turns. It also helps you avoid wasted attacks during close battles. For best results, enter realistic stats. Change one option at a time. This keeps comparisons clear. Save exports after important tests for future team reviews during ranked match preparation.

FAQs

What does a 4× weakness mean?

It means both defending types are weak to the attacking type. The type portion of damage is multiplied by four before other selected battle modifiers are applied.

What does resistance mean?

Resistance means the attack type deals less than neutral damage. A single resistance is usually 0.5×. Two resistances together can become 0.25×.

How are dual types calculated?

The calculator checks the attacking type against each defender type. It multiplies both values together. For example, 2× and 0.5× becomes neutral 1×.

Does Tera type replace both defender types?

Yes. When you choose a Tera type, the calculator uses that type as the active defending type. Leave it as None for normal dual typing.

Why did an immune result become neutral?

Some options can remove type immunity. Ring Target, Gravity, and Foresight style effects can let certain attacks connect where they normally fail.

Is the damage range exact?

It is an estimate. It follows the common damage structure and selected modifiers. It does not include every game-specific exception, hidden rule, or move effect.

What does Mold Breaker style effect do?

It ignores selected defender ability effects in this calculator. This helps test matchups where abilities like Levitate or Thick Fat should not apply.

Can I export my matchup?

Yes. After setting the inputs, press Download CSV or Download PDF. The file includes the key multiplier, damage range, and applied notes.
