Formula Used

We compute available footprint and compare it to standard mattress sizes:

  • usable_width = room_width − 2 × side_clearance − nightstand_total_width
  • usable_length = room_length − head_clearance − foot_clearance
  • min_bed_length_from_height = (sleeper_height_cm + 10) ÷ 100

A standard size fits if bed_width ≤ usable_width and bed_length ≤ usable_length and bed_length ≥ min_bed_length_from_height. For two sleepers we prefer widths ≥ 1.4 m.

All internal math is done in meters; unit conversions are applied for display.

How to Use
  1. Select your units and region.
  2. Measure your room’s length and width.
  3. Choose practical clearances for head, foot, and sides.

FAQs
What clearances are comfortable around a bed?

Common ranges are 0.6–0.9 m on each side and 0.6–0.9 m at the foot, but smaller rooms can work with 0.45 m if necessary.

How does sleeper height affect the recommendation?

We require mattress length to be at least 10 cm longer than the tallest sleeper to reduce foot overhang and improve comfort.

Can I mix region standards?

Yes. Choose a region that matches your market for easiest sourcing. Dimensions are close across regions, but names differ.

What about bed frames and headboards?

Frames add bulk beyond mattress size. If your frame is thick or has a footboard, add extra clearance or reduce the chosen size.

Do nightstands always count on both sides?

No. Set the number accordingly. The calculator subtracts 0.5 m per nightstand from available width.

How accurate are conversions to feet and inches?

We round to whole inches for readability. If you need exact cabinetry tolerances, refer to metric outputs for precision.
