Formula used
Let ttarget be the target timestamp and tnow the current timestamp in seconds within the selected timezone. The signed difference is Δt = ttarget − tnow.
- Total seconds = Δt
- Total minutes = Δt ÷ 60
- Total hours = Δt ÷ 3600
- Total days = Δt ÷ 86 400
- Weeks = ⌊|Δt| ÷ (7 × 86 400)⌋
- Years (approx) = ⌊|Δt| ÷ 31 557 600⌋ (365.25 days)
- Months (approx) = ⌊|Δt| ÷ (30.44 × 86 400)⌋
- Business days (Mon–Fri): count calendar days between dates excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and any holiday dates provided.
- Working-window seconds: sum over each day of the overlap between [work_start, work_end) and the global interval [now, target], skipping weekends/holidays when business‑day mode is enabled.
- Working hours = working‑window seconds ÷ 3600. Working days (approx) = working hours ÷ hours per business day.
Partial days are handled automatically by overlap math on the first and last day. DST transitions are handled by the timezone engine.
How to use this calculator
- Enter an event label to identify your countdown.
- Select target date and time then pick the timezone for the event.
- Enable business‑day mode to skip weekends and enter holiday dates if needed.
- Set your daily working window start and end times such as 09:00 to 17:00 to count only productive hours.
- Optionally upload or paste an iCal file. The first upcoming DTSTART becomes the target and SUMMARY populates the label.
- Click Calculate. Export results or the example table as CSV or PDF.
Tip: Use your local timezone to align with office hours. If end ≤ start we’ll auto‑adjust to at least one hour.
