How the Board Count Works
The calculator starts with the deck footprint. Length and width create the square footage. Board size and board gap decide how many deck board rows are needed. Board length decides how many pieces are needed in each row. A waste factor is then added. This helps cover cuts, damaged pieces, layout changes, and mistakes.
Framing, Posts, and Stairs
The frame estimate uses joists, beams, posts, and concrete. Joists are counted across the deck width. Beam footage is based on the number of beam lines. Post count is estimated along each beam line.
