Formula used

Base length = number of runs × run length.

Joint count per run = ceiling of (run length + end allowance − overlap) ÷ (roll length − overlap), minus one.

Installed length = base length + end allowances + joint overlaps.

Order length = installed length × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100).

Rolls required = ceiling of order length ÷ roll length.

Fasteners = spaced fasteners + joint count × fasteners per joint.

Estimated weight = length × width × thickness × metal density × perforation factor.

Waste is another useful setting. Cuts, bends, mistakes, and offcuts create material loss. A small allowance may suit simple straight work. Curves, brackets, and crowded installations often need a larger allowance. The calculator applies this percentage after adding run length, overlap, and end allowance. Roll length determines how many rolls you should buy. The tool rounds up because a partial roll cannot be purchased. It also shows leftover material. Leftover strap can be helpful for repairs, but too much unused stock ties up money. Compare different roll sizes to balance waste against convenience.

Fastener estimates depend on spacing. Divide the installed length by the selected spacing, then add one fastener to cover the starting point. The calculator also estimates joint fasteners. This provides a planning number only. Actual fastening must follow the strap manufacturer, substrate, load, and local code requirements.

Weight can matter during transport and installation. The calculator uses width, thickness, metal density, and total ordered length to estimate strap weight. Galvanized steel and stainless steel have different densities. Perforated straps may weigh less than solid strips. Use the perforation factor to reduce the estimate when needed.

Yes. Enter a perforation factor below 100 percent to reduce the estimated weight. Length and purchase calculations still use the full physical strap length.

Why does the result include overlap?

Each joint requires two strap sections to overlap. That extra shared material must be purchased, so it is added before the waste allowance.

How should I choose a waste percentage?

Use a small percentage for simple straight work. Use more for bends, short pieces, complex layouts, learning curves, and uncertain measurements.

Does the fastener total include every job condition?

No. It estimates regular spacing and selected joint fasteners. Add anchors, washers, clamps, special brackets, or inspection extras separately when required.

Can I enter different run lengths?

This version uses equal-length runs. For mixed lengths, calculate groups separately, then combine the resulting roll and fastener totals conservatively.

What thickness unit should I use?

Enter nominal strap thickness in millimeters. The calculator converts it internally for the weight estimate. Check supplier data for actual coated thickness.

Is the metal weight exact?

No. Weight is an estimate based on nominal dimensions, density, and perforation factor. Coating, slot design, tolerances, and material grade can change actual weight.

Can this choose a safe strap size?

No. Select strap width, thickness, fastening method, and spacing using manufacturer guidance, applicable codes, loads, and qualified professional judgment.
