1) What does this number line tool calculate?

It plots points, intervals, midpoint, translated values, scaled values, and reflections. It also reports span, tick count, and relative positions.

2) Why is the distance formula absolute?

Distance measures separation, not direction. Absolute value guarantees a nonnegative result even when Point A is greater than Point B.

3) What happens if I enter interval bounds backward?

The calculator reorders them internally, so the smaller value becomes the interval start. A note appears to explain the adjustment.

4) How does scaling work here?

Scaling is performed about the chosen center point. A scale factor above one moves A farther from the center, while smaller positive values move it closer.

5) How is reflection handled?

Reflection uses the center point as a mirror line on the number line. The reflected value lands the same distance from the center on the opposite side.

6) Why are some tick labels missing on the graph?

When too many ticks are present, the chart reduces visible labels to keep the graph readable. All calculations still use the full step pattern.

7) Can I use decimals and negative values?

Yes. The tool accepts decimals, fractions entered as decimals, and negative values for ranges, points, interval bounds, shifts, and centers.
