Formula Used

Item Weight = (Priority × 2) + Essential Bonus + Quantity Load

Essential Bonus = 3 when an item is essential, otherwise 0.

Quantity Load = up to 3 extra points for larger quantities.

Readiness Score (%) = (Packed Weighted Points ÷ Total Weighted Points) × 100

Essential Coverage (%) = (Packed Essential Items ÷ Total Essential Items) × 100

Urgency Score increases with critical missing items, longer stays, and recovery needs.

This checklist calculator uses weighted planning logic rather than medical diagnosis. It helps prioritize packing work by importance and completeness.

FAQs

1. What does the readiness score mean?

It shows how much of your weighted checklist is already packed. Higher-priority and essential items contribute more than optional comfort items.

2. Why can two missing items feel more urgent than five others?

The tool gives extra importance to essential and high-priority items. Missing identification or recovery items matters more than missing low-priority extras.

3. Can I use this for a planned C-section?

Yes. Choosing C-section adds recovery-focused items and increases urgency if those items remain unpacked.

4. Does the calculator replace hospital advice?

No. It is a planning tool only. Always follow your hospital’s packing list, birth center guidance, and clinician recommendations.

5. What should I mark as essential?

Mark documents, discharge clothing, chargers, toiletries, feeding basics, and recovery items as essential when they would cause delays or stress if forgotten.

6. Can I print the checklist?

Yes. Use the PDF button to open a print-friendly version, then save it as a PDF from your browser’s print dialog.

7. Why does stay length affect the output?

Longer stays usually need more clothing, baby outfits, and partner supplies. The calculator adds recommended extras based on expected days.

8. Can I add my own custom items?

Yes. Use the add custom item button to include medicines, cultural items, pumping gear, or anything your hospital specifically requests.
