Plotly graph
The chart compares total shipping estimates. It uses your submitted data or the sample scenarios when no calculation exists yet.
Example data table
These sample cases show how different package sizes and delivery conditions can change the cheapest shipping option.
| Scenario | Dimensions | Actual Weight | Distance | Cheapest Service | Billable Weight | Estimated Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light parcel, mid-range delivery | 28 × 18 × 12 cm | 2.20 kg | 420 km | Economy Mail | 2.20 kg | $15.89 |
| Bulky domestic box | 55 × 35 × 30 cm | 6.80 kg | 960 km | Economy Mail | 9.63 kg | $45.77 |
| International urgent order | 38 × 24 × 20 cm | 3.60 kg | 2,200 km | Economy Mail | 3.60 kg | $65.88 |
Formula used
1. Dimensional weight
Dimensional Weight = (Length × Width × Height) ÷ Dimensional Divisor. Each service uses its own divisor because bulkier parcels can cost more to move.
2. Billable weight
Billable Weight = max(Actual Weight, Dimensional Weight). Carriers usually charge the higher figure because space and mass both affect shipping expense.
3. Transport charge
Transport Charge = Base Fee + (Billable Weight × Rate per kg) + (Distance × Rate per km). International shipments multiply this transport cost before surcharges.
4. Subtotal
Subtotal = Transport + Packaging + Insurance + Special Surcharges. Special surcharges can include remote area, fragile handling, residential delivery, weekend delivery, and customs processing.
5. Final estimate
Final Estimate = Subtotal + Fuel Charge − Discount. This final figure is what the calculator uses to identify the cheapest available service.

FAQs
1. Why is billable weight sometimes higher than actual weight?
Large boxes take more vehicle space, even when they are light. Carriers often charge dimensional weight when it exceeds actual weight.
2. Does this calculator show exact carrier prices?
No. It provides structured estimates using common logistics pricing logic. Real carrier rates can differ because of contracts, zones, taxes, and seasonal changes.
3. How does fuel surcharge affect the result?
Fuel surcharge is applied as a percentage of the subtotal. Higher percentages increase the final estimate across every service option.
4. When should I mark a shipment as international?
Use the international option when a parcel crosses national borders. The calculator then applies transport multipliers and customs processing fees.
5. What is the declared value used for?
Declared value helps estimate insurance cost. Higher declared values generally raise insurance fees and slightly increase the total shipping estimate.
6. Can this calculator help reduce shipping spend?
Yes. Compare services, lower packaging weight, reduce box size, and test discounts to identify cheaper shipping combinations before booking.
7. Why are there different dimensional divisors?
Different services price space differently. Faster or air-based options often use stricter dimensional rules than slower ground-oriented services.
8. Which input matters most for finding cheap shipping?
Usually package size, billable weight, and distance matter most. Surcharges and fuel can also change the cheapest option quickly.
