Formula Used
  1. Net area \(A_{{net}} = L \times W - A_{{obs}}\)
  2. Tile area \(A_{{tile}} = L_{{tile}} \times W_{{tile}}\)
  3. Exact tiles \(N_{{exact}} = A_{{net}} / A_{{tile}}\)
  4. Waste factor \(f = 1 + w/100\)
  5. Tiles needed \(N_{{need}} = \lceil N_{{exact}} \times f \rceil\) when rounding is enabled.

This area-based method suits most grid ceilings. For border-sensitive layouts, consider centered grids and adjust waste accordingly.

How to Use
  1. Select units and tile module, or enter custom dimensions.
  2. Set a waste percentage for offcuts, damage, and spares.
  3. Enter each room’s length, width, and any obstruction area.
  4. Click Add room after each entry.
  5. Press Recalculate whenever settings change.
  6. Export your summary using Download CSV or Download PDF.
  7. For complex spaces, split into rectangles and add separately.
FAQs

Common modules include 2×2 ft, 2×4 ft, 600×600 mm, and 600×1200 mm. You can also provide a custom length and width.

Typical projects use 5–10% for cuts, damage, and spare stock. Irregular borders or complex rooms may require more.

Area-based counts are orientation agnostic. For border layout aesthetics, plan grid centering and adjust waste if needed.

Break complex shapes into rectangles, calculate each separately, then add them as separate rooms and review the total.

Yes. Switch units at the top. Tile modules and labels update automatically. Metric tiles can be used while reporting in feet, and vice versa.

Exact tiles show pure math. The rounded number adds waste and rounds up to whole pieces to ensure enough material.

Yes. Subtract their area using the Obstructions area input to avoid over-ordering tiles.
