Formulas used
  • Rectangle area: L × W
  • Circle area: π × (D/2)²
  • Compacted volume (per layer): TotalArea × Thickness
  • Loose volume: CompactedVolume × (1 + Compaction%) × (1 + Waste%)
  • Weight: LooseVolume × Density
  • Truckloads by weight: Weight ÷ TruckCapacityWeight
  • Truckloads by volume: LooseVolume ÷ TruckCapacityVolume
  • Cost (weight basis): Weight × Rate; Cost (volume basis): LooseVolume × Rate

How to use
  1. Select your preferred unit system.
  2. Add areas. Use shapes or type an area directly.
  3. Add layers with thickness, material, compaction, and waste percentages.
  4. Optionally set density override, truck capacities, and cost basis.
  5. Click Calculate, then export CSV or PDF if needed.

FAQs

Compaction shrinks volume after placement; waste covers handling losses. The calculator inflates compacted volume by both percentages to suggest loose material to order.

Pick a material close to your spec. If your supplier provides a specific value, use the density override for the most accurate weight and truckload estimation.

Outputs follow the selected unit system. Compacted and loose volumes display in yd³ for US units or m³ for metric units, with all conversions handled automatically.

Yes. Add multiple layers with different thicknesses and materials. The tool sums volumes and weights across all lifts for a single total.

Both are shown. Use whichever constraint applies in your region or contract. Adjust capacities to match your hauler’s limits.
