Inputs
Units: Imperial (ft)
ft
Adds 4 walls (two lengths, two widths) and updates the ceiling size.
Orientation is auto-chosen to minimize seams; you can override below.
Selecting a brand size sets a custom sheet width/height automatically.
Per-wall overrides below take priority over this setting.
%
Covers offcuts, damage, layout constraints, and board selection.

Tip
Use whole-room area for quick estimates, then refine with wall-by-wall and openings for precision.

Formula used
- Area per sheet = sheet width × sheet height.
- Wall area (each) = wall width × wall height.
- Ceiling area = ceiling length × ceiling width (optional).
- Openings area = Σ(width × height × count).
- Net area = Σ(wall areas) + ceiling area − openings area.
- Raw sheets = Net area ÷ Area per sheet.
- Waste-adjusted = Raw sheets × (1 + waste%).
- Final sheets = ceil(Waste-adjusted).
- Orientation sanity check: for each wall, sheets = ceil(W/sheetW)×ceil(H/sheetH) vs rotated; choose the lower to minimize seams.
The calculator ensures you never under-order by comparing area-based totals with a per-wall sheet-grid check and taking the conservative (larger) value.
How to use
- Select units and a sheet size preset, or enter a custom size.
- Add walls with width and height. Include the ceiling if needed.
- Add doors/windows under openings to subtract their areas.
- Set a waste allowance for offcuts and board selection constraints.
- Click Calculate, then export results to CSV or PDF.
Example data
| Walls | Openings |
|---|---|
| 12×8 ft, 12×8 ft, 10×8 ft, 10×8 ft | Door: 3×7 ft ×1, Window: 3×4 ft ×2 |

FAQs
It depends on wall height, framing, and seam strategy. This tool suggests the orientation with fewer sheets/seams; follow local codes and manufacturer recommendations.
Common practice is 10–15% for typical rooms. Increase for complex layouts, tight stairwells, or fragile finishes.
Small openings rarely reduce discrete sheet counts. The calculator safeguards by comparing against a per-wall grid estimate and using the conservative requirement.
Yes. Switch to metric and choose common 1.2×2.4 m boards or enter custom dimensions.
Toggle “Include ceiling” and enter ceiling length and width. The area is added before applying waste.
