White themeHow to use
- Select units, enter building length and width.
- Choose roof type, and eave orientation if required.
- Set overhang. Keep “corner extension” checked to add 2×O per side.
- Add optional waste percentage for ordering safety.
- Click Calculate. Review per‑side lengths and totals.
- Export your takeoff using Download CSV or Download PDF.

Formula used
The calculator estimates eave linear footage from building plan dimensions and roof type. When corner extension is enabled, each eave side length is extended by 2×O to account for overhang continuing past corners.
- Gable: If eaves run along length:
Total = 2 × (L + ext). If along width:Total = 2 × (W + ext). - Hip:
Total = 2 × (L + ext) + 2 × (W + ext). - Shed:
Total = 1 × (S + ext), whereSis the chosen side (L or W).
ext = (includeCornerExtension ? 2×O : 0), and final ordering length applies waste: Totalwaste = Total × (1 + waste%/100).
Example data
| Scenario | Roof | L | W | O | Corner ext | Total | With 5% waste | Units |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Residential gable | Gable (eaves along L) | 30.00 | 20.00 | 1.00 | Yes | 64.00 | 67.20 | ft |
| Hip bungalow | Hip | 40.00 | 28.00 | 1.50 | Yes | 148.00 | 155.40 | ft |
| Shed roof | Shed (eaves along L) | 24.00 | 16.00 | 0.75 | Yes | 25.50 | 26.78 | ft |

Notes
Always verify unique architectural features—bays, curves, or step‑outs—on drawings. Where corners are rounded, corner extensions may differ from the simple 2×O assumption.
Typical Overhangs by Roof Style
Reference values; confirm with drawings and local codes.
| Roof style | Common overhang O (in) | Corner extension used? | Added per side (2×O, in) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ranch / Truss gable | 12 | Yes | 24 | Standard soffit depth; fascia-friendly. |
| Contemporary low-slope | 18 | Yes | 36 | Deeper eave for shading and drip clearance. |
| Cottage / Craftsman | 9 | Yes | 18 | Decorative brackets; verify profile projections. |
| Minimalist shed | 6 | No | 0 | Flush fascia lines; corner carry often omitted. |
| Coastal hip | 24 | Yes | 48 | Large projection for rain protection; wind strapping common. |

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminum K-style gutter | 10 ft / 3 m | 5 | Slip joint / seam | End caps, outlets | Crate long runs; add laps at corners. |
| Painted steel gutter | 3 m | 6 | Riveted seam | Sealant, hangers | Thermal movement; allow expansion gaps. |
| Fascia board (PVC) | 12 ft | 7 | Scarf joint | Inside/Outside corners | Account for miter waste at boxed returns. |
| Soffit panels (vinyl) | 12 ft | 8 | Interlocking | J-channel, F-channel | Vent patterns may dictate cut layout. |
| Drip edge (metal) | 10 ft | 4 | Butt joint | Starter, nails | Minimal waste if cut plan is optimized. |
