Formulas Used
- Effective room dimensions = (Length − 2 × ExpansionGap) × (Width − 2 × ExpansionGap)
- Effective area = Σ EffectiveRoomArea − Σ ObstaclesArea
- Net area = EffectiveArea × (1 + Waste% / 100)
- Plank area = PlankLength × PlankWidth
- Planks needed = ceil(NetArea / PlankArea)
- Boxes needed = if PlanksPerBox > 0 → ceil(PlanksNeeded / PlanksPerBox); else if BoxCoverage > 0 → ceil(NetArea / BoxCoverage)
Expansion gaps shrink coverage slightly. Waste covers staggering, rips, end‑cuts, defects, and pattern alignment.

Straight layouts typically use 5–7%. Complex rooms, patterns, or diagonal installs may need 10–12% to cover offcuts and defects.
Yes, a small reduction occurs around the perimeter. This tool accounts for it by trimming length and width by twice the gap.
If planks per box is provided, it’s used for accuracy. Otherwise, the calculator can compute boxes using the labeled box coverage area.
Choose one unit system. Switch units at the top to convert labels; values won’t auto‑convert, so re‑enter for correctness.
