Auto-Pack Recommendation

Chooses the plan with the **fewest pallets**. If equal, honors the preference toggle.

Formula Used

  • Area (rectangle) = length × width
  • Area (circle) = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²
  • Thickness (ft) = thickness × (in→ft)
  • Adjusted Area = Area × √(1 + slope²) with slope as rise/run
  • Volume (ft³) = Σ Adjusted Area × Thickness
  • Density (ton/ft³) from unit:
    • lb/ft³ ÷ 2000
    • kg/m³ × 0.06242796 ÷ 2000
    • ton/yd³ ÷ 27
  • Base Tons = Volume × Density
  • Final Tons = Base Tons × (1 + waste%) × (1 + compaction%) × (1 + moisture%)
  • Coverage per Ton = (1 ÷ Density) ÷ Thickness
  • Per-area thickness maps: area-weighted average of cell values replaces row override.
  • Pallet effective capacity = min(bags-per-pallet, floor(max-pallet-weight ÷ bag-weight)).

How to Use

  1. Choose mode: coverage → tons, tons → coverage, or both.
  2. Select units, enter global thickness, or set per-row overrides or maps.
  3. Pick a material preset or type a supplier density value.
  4. Add areas: rectangles, circles, or custom square units. Set slope if needed.
  5. Apply overage, compaction, and moisture adjustments as appropriate.
  6. Click Calculate to see tons, coverage per ton, and cost.
  7. Use Packaging Breakdown to translate tonnage into bags, sacks, and pallets.
  8. Export results as CSV or PDF, or save a named project preset.

FAQs

Use your supplier’s bulk density for the specific gradation. Presets are approximate. If unsure, measure a delivered volume and weight to back-calculate.

Rounded river rock compacts less than angular aggregate. Keep compaction near zero unless project specifications demand a particular placement factor.

Voids are represented here by overage or compaction factors. Higher voids typically require extra material to achieve a uniform visual thickness.

Decorative beds often range 1–3 inches depending on stone size and desired coverage. Heavier traffic or larger stones may need more depth.

Sloped surfaces have more actual surface area than their plan view. The √(1+slope²) factor accounts for that additional area.
