Window Glass Area & Weight Calculator

Advanced calculator for glazing contractors, fabricators, and detail-oriented DIYers estimating every pane. Handle rectangles, multi-pane windows, and layered units with waste and edge allowances. Switch instantly between inches, feet, millimeters, centimeters, and meters for global workflows. Compute area, per-pane weight, totals, and round to deliverable quantities. Export results as CSV and polished PDF reports.

Inputs

White theme
kg/m³
Typical: Soda-lime ≈ 2500 kg/m³ (≈ 156 lb/ft³); Borosilicate ≈ 2230 kg/m³ (≈ 139 lb/ft³).

Formulae Used

  • width_m = convert(width, unit) − 2 × edge_allowance_m
  • height_m = convert(height, unit) − 2 × edge_allowance_m
  • area_per_pane_m2 = width_m × height_m
  • thickness_m = thickness_mm ÷ 1000
  • volume_per_pane_m3 = area_per_pane_m2 × thickness_m
  • weight_per_pane_kg = volume_per_pane_m3 × density_SI
  • total_area_layers_m2 = area × panes × layers × qty
  • total_weight_kg = weight × panes × layers × qty
  • Apply wastage: × (1 + waste% ÷ 100) to totals.

Notes: Density in lb/ft³ is converted internally to kg/m³.

How to Use

  1. Enter opening width and height and choose a dimension unit.
  2. Provide quantity, panes, layers, edge allowance, and wastage.
  3. Pick a density preset and unit or enter a custom density.
  4. Select a rounding preset or customize decimals for outputs.
  5. Click Calculate and export CSV or PDF.

FAQs

Soda-lime glass is commonly 2500 kg/m³ (≈156 lb/ft³). Borosilicate and laminates vary; confirm with your datasheet.

Layers multiply glass area and mass; face area stays the same per opening.

It deducts clearance for rebates, gaskets, or setting blocks before area calculation.

Yes. In Batch mode, use the CSV or PDF buttons above the batch table.

They set decimals for areas, weights, and dimensions; use “Custom” to override.
