Use graded courses for GPA. Pass/fail and audit rows are automatically excluded.
This example shows how grade points and quality points create an unweighted GPA.
| Course | Term | Credits | Grade | Grade Points | Quality Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| English Literature | Semester 1 | 3 | A | 4.00 | 12.00 |
| Algebra II | Semester 1 | 4 | B+ | 3.30 | 13.20 |
| Biology | Semester 1 | 3 | A- | 3.70 | 11.10 |
| World History | Semester 1 | 3 | B | 3.00 | 9.00 |

Grade Points are assigned from the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. For example, A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0.
Quality Points for each course are calculated with this formula:
Quality Points = Grade Points × Course Credits
Unweighted GPA is then calculated with this formula:
Unweighted GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Graded Credits
An unweighted GPA measures academic performance on a standard 4.0 scale. It does not add extra value for honors, AP, IB, or advanced courses.
No. This calculator stays unweighted. An A in a regular course and an A in an advanced course both use the same base grade points.
Credits act as weights for each class. A four-credit course affects GPA more than a one-credit course because it contributes more quality points.
No. Those rows are excluded because they usually do not produce standard grade points on the unweighted 4.0 scale.
Yes. Add a term name to each course row. After calculation, the report shows a term breakdown with counted courses, credits, quality points, and GPA.
A row is excluded when it is unchecked, marked pass/fail or audit, missing credits, or missing a valid letter grade.
This page uses a standard 4.0 unweighted scale with common plus and minus values, including A, A-, B+, B, and F.
Yes. After calculating, you can export the report as CSV for spreadsheets or PDF for sharing, printing, and record keeping.
