How to use the Unit Price Calculator
- Choose your input unit (e.g., mL, kg, item) and type the pack size and packs.
- Enter the shelf price; optionally add shipping, tax, and discounts to get an effective price.
- Set Yield % for edible/usable portion and Dilution× for concentrates (e.g., 4 means 1 part makes 4 parts).
- Pick the output unit (e.g., per L) or use quick chips like per 100 g.
- Use Batch Comparison to add multiple items, then export CSV/PDF or copy to clipboard.
| Scenario | What to do |
|---|---|
| Olive oil 750 mL vs 1 L | Input units in mL, output per L. Include shipping to compare online vs store. |
| Rice 2 kg vs 5 kg | Set output per kg; discount often makes 5 kg cheaper per kg. |
| Bleach concentrate 3:1 | Set Dilution× to 4 (1+3). Effective price reflects usable liters. |
| Meat with bone | Set Yield to 70–80% to account for waste; compare effective edible price. |
Assumption: prices and taxes vary—calculations are estimates.
FAQs
Should I include shipping and tax?
Include them for a true delivered cost, especially for online orders. For in‑store comparisons with VAT‑inclusive pricing, leaving them at 0 is fine.
Per 100 g vs per kg?
Per 100 g is convenient for labels and small packs; per kg is standard for bulk comparisons. The output unit picker lets you flip between them instantly.
What is yield and dilution?
Yield is the usable/edible portion (e.g., 80%). Dilution× is how much final product 1 unit of concentrate makes (e.g., 4).
How do subscriptions work?
Enter fee, months, deliveries, and units per delivery. The calculator will compute effective unit price over the full term.
Why are some rows not compared?
Only items with the same unit category (mass/volume/count/etc.) are ranked together against the chosen normalize‑to unit.
